Mari Vineyards is nestled on the Old Mission Peninsula and designed to model a Tuscan winery. Owner Marty Lagina made the choice to grow red grapes that shouldn’t normally grow in Michigan’s climate. By using the innovative technique of utilizing heat-capturing canopies, a process known as Nellaserra, Mari Vineyards is able to ensure the maturation of exotic red grape varietals through cold spring and the chilly autumn temperatures. Today, Mari Vineyards has more than 60 acres of grapes planted, producing a variety of reds and whites. The newly completed 30,000-square-foot gravity flow production facility and tasting room is open daily. Groups should call ahead to arrange a tasting and tour. Producing estate-grown wines.
