The USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards has named the Inn at Black Star Farms Best Wine Country Hotel 2020.
A panel of experts partnered with 10Best editors to pick the initial nominees, and the top 10 winners were determined by popular vote. Black Star took first place.
“The Inn at Black Star Farms puts guests in the heart of the Traverse Wine Coast, with easy access to wineries and tasting rooms on the Old Mission and Leelanau Wine Trails,” USA Today summarized. “Each stay includes a daily breakfast, nightly hospitality hour with wine and small bites, a bottle of house wine and an exclusive barrel room tasting.”
The family-owned 10-room Inn is located on 160 acres among the rolling hills of rural Leelanau County in northern Lower Michigan. Visible while driving along M-22 following West Grand Traverse Bay, the Kentucky-inspired estate is nestled below a hillside of vineyards with pastoral views of the large equestrian facility.
Going head to head with accommodations in notable wine regions like California and Oregon, “the nomination in itself was an extreme honor, and one that shines a spotlight on a tremendous team we are so fortunate to have at our Inn,” says Sherri Campbell Fenton, managing owner. “It’s very exciting to see our unique experiences and incredible wines making such a tremendous, lasting impact on so many.”
The Hotel Walloon in Walloon Lake south of Petoskey came in fifth.
This boutique hotel in Northern Michigan features just 32 guest rooms in a lakeside setting that’ll make you feel like you’re stepping back into the early 20th century,” USA Today wrote. “Nearby Walloon Lake Winery is one of many options in the Petoskey Wine Region.”
