Deb Burgdorf of Burgdorf’s Winery in Haslett shared her family’s holiday cookie recipe.
Deb’s Sugar Cookies
6 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
Mix dry ingredients.
Cut in 2 1/2 cups shortening (5 sticks butter).
Add 4 eggs
Add 6 teaspoons milk
Add 2 teaspoons vanilla
Roll and cut on well-floured surface
Bake at 350 F for 8 minutes.
Frosting
4 sticks oleo
12 ounces cream cheese
4 teaspoons vanilla
4 teaspoons hot water
4 pounds powder sugar
Mix well. Spread on cookies and sprinkle colored sugar on top.
