It’s all hands on deck time for the 2020 Michigan Wine Competition.

The Michigan Wine Collaborative has begun planning with partners, Michigan State University School of Hospitality Business and the Kellogg Center. The competition is scheduled for July 14, with the Gold Medal Reception planned for July 23 at Kellogg Center.

The Collaborative is working with fewer resources to carry out the events than in the past when they were conducted under the auspices of the former Michigan Grape and Wine Industry Council. Last year’s successful competition and awards event — the first since the council was disbanded — was handled by students in a MSU hospitality business class working with staff at MSU’s Kellogg Center and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development as well as members of the Collaborative.

Sponsors, volunteers and donations are needed. A sponsorship packet is currently in development and will be released in a few weeks, according to MWC. Those interested in donating time, money or employees to help produce this year’s events are asked to email the Collaborative at winenotask@gmail.com.
