A celebration of the Traverse Wine Coast returns in May after being shelved last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a press release from Traverse City Tourism.

Traverse City Uncorked will feature self-guided tours of more than 40 area wineries while offering incentives, hotel discounts and a chance to win prizes.

The event will be powered by a digital passport where guests can check into Traverse Wine Coast locations throughout the month of May. With five check-ins, they are eligible to choose from an Uncorked T-shirt or Traverse City wine related gift items. The passports can be redeemed at the Traverse City Visitor Center. Guests staying at participating hotels will also be entered to win a wine-themed Traverse City vacation.

“We are taking every step to assure the safety of all our visitors,” said Traverse City Tourism president, Trevor Tkach. “We really missed the fun of Traverse City Uncorked last year. We had to reinvent the program. But we sense both our visitors, and our wineries are eager to share the unique experiences throughout the Traverse Wine Coast.”

Winner of the Traverse City Uncorked grand prize will be announce in early June. Some of the prizes includes a $200 Traverse City Tourism gift certificate for future lodging. Gift certificates to Hearth & Vine Café, Black Star Farms, 45 North Vineyard and Winery, M22, The Crystal River Outfitters Recreational District, treats at Cherry Republic and discounts at Rove Estate Vineyard and Winery.

Traverse City boasts a wide range of cool-climate wines. The region’s two peninsulas, Leelanau and Old Mission are recognized for microclimates that are suited for growing a variety of wine grapes.
