Michigan Wine Month (May) is right around the corner, and only two days remain to enter the Michigan Wine Collaborative’s contest to give this monthlong celebration a catchy slogan.
Until April 22, you can join the “You Name It” contest by submitting your slogan — and a picture of you enjoying Michigan wine — to the Collaborative via Facebook (check the “Events” tab) or Instagram. Simply follow the contest rules posted on the Collaborative’s website and social media. There is no limit to the number of entries you can submit.
The top three slogans, as juried by the Michigan Wine Collaborative’s Marketing and Communications Committee, will win exclusive experiences presented by Round Barn, Chateau Chantal, or Detroit Vineyards. The committee will announce the winning slogan at the beginning of May and use it to promote Michigan Wine Month on social media.
The judges are approaching the evaluation process with “open minds,” says Brian Lillie, the vice president of the Collaborative.
“The first part is to get people engaged and excited about Michigan wine, and we’re hoping that this [contest] would get them thinking in that direction,” he says. “And the second part is maybe somebody has an idea that we’re not even thinking about or that’s not even on our radar as a marketing committee.”
The “You Name It” contest will also inform a much bigger project the Collaborative is working on, set to coincide with Michigan Wine Month next year: the creation of an industry-wide state wine brand.
“We secured a specialty crop block grant to work on branding for the state of Michigan,” Lillie says, “and this will help us steer our efforts when we launch this new brand in 2023.”
