The 2021 Leland Wine and Food Festival, originally scheduled for June 13, has been canceled.

Host Leland Chamber of Commerce said in making the decision that given a recent increase in COVID cases statewide, they could not realistically predict that gatherings of 2,000 people or more will be allowed by June.

“We waited as long as we could to make the decision, but we don’t foresee being able to have such a large gathering by June,” Chamber President Mark Morton said via email.

A statement at the Chamber of Commerce website elaborated, “Due to the fact that this event takes months of preplanning, and reservations for things like tents, bands and many other resources (along with associated deposits), we cannot delay our decision to see if we will be allowed to host such a large gathering in the somewhat limited space of the Leland Harbor in June.”

Organizers investigated scheduling the festival later in the year, but decided against it after receiving input from vendors and volunteers.

In the meantime, the festival is offering a Wine & Food Rest-ival poster by artist Brianne Farley that is aptly titled, “Wine Rest.” Price of $22 includes shipping. Orders can be placed here.
